Pear Moissanite

In recent years, moissanites have becoming increasingly popular as the preferred alternative to diamonds. But this beautiful gemstone is, literally and figuratively, a star in its own right. We love moissanite because it of its unparalleled brilliance and fire, eye-catching colors, and aesthetic purity.

What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is an incredibly rare gemstone that comes from the place where dreams are made -- the stars. This gemstone was first discovered in 1893 when French chemist Henry Moissan was collecting rock samples from a meteor crater. At first, Moissan thought that the small crystals were diamonds. Later is was discovered that they were actually a never-before-seen crystals called silicon carbide. In 1958 moissanite was found in the Green River Formation in Wyoming, and it has since been found as inclusions in other rocks, but it is still considered very unusual outside of celestial origins.

Lab-Created Perfection

Because naturally-occurring moissanite has only been discovered on in trace amounts on earth, moissanites used in jewelry are created in high-tech laboratories, with modern technologies that replicates the force of nature. Our moissanites are created in strictly controlled lab environment ensures every stone is internally flawless. Each stone is then precision cut and meticulously polished by skilled artisans to maximize its shine and brilliance.

Why Choose Moissanite Over Other Gemstones?

Moissanite is often considered to be the best alternative to diamonds for jewelry making. It has a Mohn scale hardness of 9.25, making it nearly as durable as diamonds (which has a hardness of 10), and more durable than any other gemstones. They are also more refractive than diamonds, which give them a dazzling fire and brilliance that many find even more desirable than diamonds. Their colors are brighter and because these stones are most often produced in a lab, they are significantly more affordable than diamond or other rare gemstone pieces.

Fancy Color Moissanite

The Many Colors of Moissanite

Because moissanite is made in a lab, it can be found in almost any color you desire. While most moissanite is colorless (rated on the same scale as diamonds from D-K), it can be manufactured in shades of grey, green, blue, champaign, and yellow, making it is an ideal gemstone for any jewelry style – from traditional engagement rings to eye-catching statement pieces.
